Block 1 · Measures

Candle measures

In quantitative work on candlesticks, context matters more than the pattern: a Hammer on its own is worth little; a Hammer at a 20-day low, oversold and on high volume, is worth a great deal. The candle measures quantify that context and the strength of each bar as continuous, thresholdable values.

The idea: let the optimizer discover the weight

Instead of a score with fixed weights (+20 if volume is high, +20 if the body is large…), each dimension is exposed as a scalar indicator compared against a threshold. That way the engine searches and discovers which context matters, rather than having it imposed by hand. They combine with AND alongside the patterns — exactly AniQuant's search philosophy.

// Strong Hammer, in the lower extreme zone and on high volume
Hammer = 1 & PosicionRango(20) < 0.1 & VolumenRel(20) > 1.5

CuerpoRel

N

Body size relative to its own mean: |Close−Open| / mean(N). >1.5 = large body (it gives weight to Marubozu/Engulfing).

Period 20 (10…50) · Threshold 0.5…3 step 0.5

VolumenRel

N

Volume relative to its own mean: Volume / mean(N). >1.5 = high volume (confirmation); useful above all on stocks.

Period 20 (10…50) · Threshold 1…3 step 0.5

PosicionRango

N

Where the close sits inside the range of N bars: 0 = the low, 1 = the high. <0.1 = floor, >0.9 = ceiling (extreme zones).

Period 20 (10…50) · Threshold 0…1 step 0.1

GapRel

N

Opening gap in ATR units: (Open−Close[1]) / ATR(N). >0.5 = gap up; <−0.5 = gap down.

Period 14 (7…28) · Threshold −2…2 step 0.5

SombraInfRel

Lower shadow / body (capped at 10). >2 = hammer, >4 = strong, >6 = very strong. It quantifies the rejection of lows.

No period · Threshold 1…6 step 1

SombraSupRel

Upper shadow / body (capped at 10). >2 = shooting star, >4 = very strong. It quantifies the rejection of highs.

No period · Threshold 1…6 step 1

Where to find them

Mass Test

The catalog selector has a third option, Candle measures, next to Indicators and Candlestick patterns. Unlike the patterns, they keep the threshold editor (they are continuous measures, not 0/1 signals).

Indicators window

A tab of its own, Candle measures (next to Indicators and Patterns), lists all six with their formula and description.

Export: all six measures are translated into EasyLanguage, MQL5 and ProRealTime. GapRel uses Wilder's ATR (the same as the engine) so the results reproduce exactly.
